Depression is not always sadness. It can look like persistent low mood, surviving the day without enjoying it, pulling back from what used to matter, or a core belief like "I am not enough" that no amount of logic seems to shift.
It also tends to feed itself. Depression reduces the activities that bring meaning and pleasure, which deepens the depression. Therapy works on interrupting that cycle and on whatever keeps it running.
How We Treat Depression
Your therapist matches the approach to you. CBT is often part of it, alongside other evidence-based methods we use across the practice:
- CBT, including behavioral activation to gradually rebuild engagement, and work on automatic negative thoughts
- EMDR, when negative beliefs trace back to specific experiences or memories
- Psychodynamic therapy, for long-standing depression tied to relational patterns and earlier experiences
- IFS, for the inner critic and the parts carrying shame or grief
Who We Work With
We see teens and adults with depression, often alongside anxiety, trauma, or life transitions such as career changes, moves, or identity shifts. Most of this work happens in individual therapy, one-on-one, in the office or by video.
Bree Anthony, MA, LMFT works with teens and adults on depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, panic attacks, OCD, and PTSD. Lyndsay Mclaren, LPCC works with adolescents, teens, adults, and families on depression, anxiety, trauma, eating disorders, substance use, and identity, and her practice is LGBTQIA+ affirming.
